This item may be called a French Butter Keeper or
Country Butter Keeper.
One of my customers brought the idea to
me years ago. To use it, pack the butter
(one or two sticks)
into the top (the funny looking part) and place about 1" of water in
the base. The water keeps the air from the butter, thus keeping
it sweet and fresh.
When used, the keeper sits on the large knob
and you scoop the butter out of the bell.
You can leave your
butter keeper out year round for fresh, soft butter without
refrigeration.

Pie
"Bird" Funnel
Since Victorian times a pie "bird" funnel has been used by cooks
in cottage kitchens to prepare pies for large feats.
To use a
pie "bird" funnel, place it in the center of a meat or fruit pie on
top of the bottom crust. The pastry lid rests on its broad
shoulder with the hollow funnel poking out through the top.
As
the pie cooks, the steam vents out through the pie funnel, stopping
the contents from boiling over onto the outside of the pie or into
your over! It also avoids having a soggy pastry.

This item was designed for peanuts and shells. You can fill one
side with peanuts or pistachios and as you shell the nuts you can put
the shells on the other side.
Alternative uses might be a center piece for flowers,
two vegetables, or silverware in a buffet setting. |

Bread
Cup
The bread cup idea comes from when great-grandma used tin fruit cans
to bake bread. This ceramic pot now makes a great "quick bread."
Bread recipes are included for Lemon Poppy Seed, Toasted Walnut Fudge,
Pumpkin, Blueberry, Zucchini, Cranberry, Rhubarb, Orange Nut, Banana,
and Apricot. It will also work well for the yeast breads.

Mushroom Keepers
When mushrooms come from the grocery store they are
already starting to spoil as the mushroom reacts to the acetone in the
plastic wrapper.
To have your mushrooms last longer it is best to remove
them from their store package and place them unwashed, in a small
brown paper bag before placing them in the refrigerator.
The mushroom keeper will keep your mushrooms a little
longer than the paper bag. Place unwashed mushrooms in the
keeper and place it in the refrigerator. It also works well with
berries. |
