I grew up on the west side of Madison, Wisconsin and attended Nakoma Elementary School, Cherokee Junior High School and Madison West High School.

My interest in clay started in college with a semester of pottery, part of the training towards my B.S. in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin.
After studying pottery in Colorado with Betty Woodman and having a small studio in Indianapolis, Indiana, I settled in Spring Green, Wisconsin in 1973.  I have been here for over 30 years.

Various sources influence my pottery.  I have found that working with clay is nearly universal and has historically helped record man's culture and way of life.  I love to travel and have enjoyed several tours of Japanese potteries.  Ideas have also evolved from trips to New Zealand, China, Peru and Mexico.

I really enjoy working with clay.  I can't envision myself doing anything else.  Each day is different.  Some days I "throw" pots, other days I'm busy glazing pots or loading the kiln.  Running a small business adds another dimension of mental activity.
